Gloryscent: A Beauty Line for Women of Color
Rafaela Gonzalez, the founder and CEO of Gloryscent, has made it her mission to provide women of color with real skincare solutions through an inclusive, safe, and clean product line. With her Caribbean roots serving as a foundational inspiration, Gonzalez has successfully introduced a range of skin care products that uses natural and organic ingredients designed to cater to various needs.
The story of Gonzalez’s journey towards the creation of Gloryscent began with her own personal experiences in growing up as a woman of color. Growing up, she struggled with her textured hair and darker skin, continually feeling intimidated by the European standards of beauty that surrounded her. This experience eventually fueled her interest to create a brand that not only celebrates and honors women of color but puts them at the forefront of the conversation.
“I wanted to create a brand in which WOC are the inspiration rather than the last thought,” Gonzalez tells POPSUGAR.
Gloryscent does not only aim to serve women of color, but it also stands for inclusivity within the clean beauty movement. According to Gonzalez, the majority of beauty products marketed towards women of color contains toxic chemicals that disproportionately harm consumers of color. As such, Gloryscent offers a solution that provides access to the best and safest ingredients available.
“I felt it was necessary to create and offer a skincare routine rather than just one or two products,” Gonzalez says. “If someone wants to transition to clean beauty, they should have the entire collection.”
Gloryscent products use natural and organic ingredients, with the majority sourced from Gonzalez’s homeland. Some notable elements that make Gloryscent products unique include neem oil, derived from trees commonly found in the Dominican Republic, and other additives such as arnica flower extract, willow bark, and organic ginseng-promoting natural skincare through effective care.
Gonzalez had no formal training in the formulation of skincare products, which proved a challenge initially, but she still cultivated a desire to create quality products. After thorough research and self-education through various online schools, she was able to build a product line that promotes inclusivity, transparency, and real solutions for women of color and beyond.
Today, Gloryscent continues to expand its reach, and its biggest achievement so far is having products in JCPenny stores. More notably, Gonzalez is proud to host a speaking series on inclusivity in clean beauty, aimed at educating consumers about the importance of using natural and organic ingredients and increasing product visibility for POC-owned brands.
“This is with the intention to simply educate and not fearmonger,” Gonzalez says. “Knowledge is power.”
With their commitment to inclusivity and clean beauty, Gonzalez and Gloryscent strive to empower women to make better choices for their well-being while providing them with products that work. Whether one struggles with hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, or sun damage, Gonzalez’s Gloryscent product line offers a comprehensive solution to achieve healthy and glowing skin, safely and organically.
So, if you’re looking for a product line that caters to your skin woes while still promoting all-natural ingredients, look no further than Gloryscent.
