1) Meet the 22-year-old behind the messages on Chicago’s Blue Cross Blue Shield building. For more than two decades, Chicago’s Blue Cross Blue Shield building has been using the lights in its building to spell out messages on what it calls the city’s “biggest billboard.” The building has been at the center of several major moments in city history, spelling out messages of awareness, sports victories and more. But if you’ve ever wondered who is behind the messages currently lighting up Chicago’s skyline, you’re not alone. Turns out, it’s 22-year-old Ashley Bullock, who is in charge of social media for the building.

2) Cleaning workers cooperative owned by immigrant women launches on Southeast Side. Long-time cleaning worker Estela Nava is launching a cleaning workers cooperative on the Southeast Side called Mujeres Brillantes Cleaning Co-op. Owned by Nava and two other immigrant women, Esmeralda Gutierrez and Mairim Fernandez, the cooperative was announced yesterday at City Hall with the support of Cook County Commissioner Alma Anaya and Alderwoman Susan Sadlowski Garza (10th). The cooperative, the first of its kind on the Southeast Side, has been in the works for three years with help from the city of Chicago and the United Workers’ Center.

3) Newly obtained contract details deal to keep Lollapalooza in Chicago for 10 years. The deal to keep Lollapalooza in Chicago’s Grant Park for the next 10 years guarantees a larger minimum payment to the city than that of the new NASCAR race beginning next year, while the NASCAR race has longer windows for both setting up and tearing down, according to the contracts for both events obtained by NBC 5 Investigates. The terms of the agreement show that C3, the event production company that produces Lollapalooza, will pay the city a guaranteed $2 million for a four-day festival, $1.5 million for a three-day festival and at least $750,000 even if no festival is held. Those payments are guaranteed minimums.

4) ‘The neighborhood milkman, but for coffee’: Edgewater-based Kinetic Coffee delivers fresh cold brew to your door. Kinetic Coffee owner Jordan Reinhardt spent years designing artistic coffee drinks in Chicago cafes — and now he’s launched his own brand of cold brew and is delivering homemade drinks to customers. He brews the drinks over the weekend and delivers orders on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Kinetic is a one-person operation for now, so Reinhardt delivers between Rogers Park and Downtown. He also plans to sell cold brews at upcoming Edge of Sweetness weekly markets.

5) Stacy Davis Gates won’t run for mayor, but CTU ally Brandon Johnson hints at imminent announcement. Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates says she won’t run for mayor despite years of speculation, but union ally and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson is hinting at a potential campaign of his own. Davis Gates has previously deflected questions about a potential campaign but hadn’t officially shut the door, until yesterday. Asked why she won’t run for mayor, Davis Gates said she views her position as CTU president, to which she was elected earlier this year, as “the best job in the world.”
