Did you know one of the fall’s biggest trends is western style clothing? Like all trends, there are parts of this trend that I like and parts I’ll probably leave in the store. That’s one of the great things about fashion; we don’t have to participate in every trend and can pick and choose what works best for our lifestyle.

Western Style Trend – What is it?
When I think of western style, I think of a cowboy or rancher out in Montana. A cowboy hat, dark wash jeans, a denim jacket, cowboy boots, a belt with a large buckle, and a white tee or a plaid shirt are the items that fill my mind when I envision a cowboy, but that isn’t exactly the look I’m going for.
Feminine Twist on the Western Style Trend
Flannel and plaid shirts aren’t my usual style of dressing. I prefer something a little more feminine, and I can easily incorporate it into the western style trend. A white t-shirt is excellent, and I can see wearing this exact outfit with that, but today I wanted to look more like a “dandy” rancher. I’m thinking the owner of the ranch, not the ranch hand. This Sleeveless Cowl Neck in navy looks dressy but still looks great with jeans. I love the feel of the material and how it drapes at the neckline and the shoulder pleats. This top runs true to size, and I’m wearing a medium.
Part of my feminine twist on a western style trend would be the addition of jewelry. I love wearing jewelry, and I think it finishes and compliments an outfit. Today’s jewelry is from Kendra Scott, which I wear most of the time. Someone asked me the other day what I liked about Kendra Scott jewelry. I gave the question some thought and decided that I like their jewelry because it is of nice quality; nothing I’ve purchased has ever tarnished or turned, and the metal color is beautiful. Some jewelry is too brassy looking, but this jewelry is the perfect color. I’m wearing Sophee Drop Earrings, 18 Kt. Gold Vermeil Cross Necklace, Gold Disc Reversible Pendant, Merrick Chain Link Necklace, and 2 of the 3 strands of the Davis Multistrand Necklace.
Blazers are trending this fall, especially oversized men’s blazers. You might notice that this year’s blazers are relaxed looking, longer in length, and the sleeves might even be longer than you are used to wearing. The Houndstooth Check Blazer I’m wearing has a tailored fit, so it isn’t as relaxed as some blazers I’ve tried. I also found that this blazer runs a little small; I needed to have sized up to a large instead of the medium I’m styling. I want to ensure that I can wear the blazer with heavier sweaters once the weather is cooler. This quality blazer is lined, but it might be out of the price range for some teachers. So, I’ll include others below that are just as professional looking but a bit more price friendly.
Here is the view of the length of the blazer. I styled an outfit last year that is very similar, but the blazer was double-breasted.
Modern Twist on the Western Style Trend
Jeans are the backbone of the western style, but I wanted to incorporate a modern twist to my outfit. When I think of western jeans, I usually think of Wrangler or Levi’s, but those weren’t the modern jeans I was looking for. Instead, I chose these High Rise Slim Jeans from Banana Republic Factory with the raw hem detail. These jeans are like a cigarette jean; they have a slim fit from hip to knee and a slim leg that’s a little wider than a skinny leg. They run true to size; I’m wearing a size 29 in tall.
These Western Style Boots are an older pair I bought a couple of years ago. The newer version looks almost identical; they have a higher shaft which is now trending. They run true to size, and I’m wearing my usual size 9.
A belt is the final item that brings together my western style trend outfit. I bought this Double Prong Belt last year, and I love being able to adjust the size of the belt easily. I’m wearing a large, and it fits me great.
