Warner Bros Leads the Pack in the 2023 Oscars Race with ‘Elvis’ and ‘The Batman’
The 2023 Oscars are just around the corner, and the competition for the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category is heating up. As always, Variety’s senior awards editor Clayton Davis has unveiled his predictions for the upcoming ceremony, and Warner Bros is leading the pack with their top contenders ‘Elvis’ and ‘The Batman’.
‘Elvis’ follows the life of the legendary American music icon, from his childhood to his rise to fame in the 1950s, while ‘The Batman’ sees the Caped Crusader investigate a serial killer that’s targeting key political figures in Gotham. Both films boast impressive makeup and hairstyling, with ‘Elvis’ being transformed into the King of Rock and Roll, and ‘The Batman’ featuring stunning prosthetics.
However, the competition is fierce, with ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ and ‘The Whale’ also in the running. ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ features the war battles and muddy conditions of World War I, while ‘The Whale’ showcases the transformation of the lead character – an English teacher living with severe obesity.
Although ‘Elvis’ is the front-runner to win, the predictions are fluid and subject to change, as Davis notes. It’s worth noting that the predictions are based on Davis’ assessment of the current standings and do not reflect personal preferences. In any case, the winners will be revealed in the Dolby Theatre on March 12, 2023.
While the race is heating up, it’s clear that Warner Bros has a strong chance of taking home the title for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. However, it’s still anyone’s guess as to what will happen on the night of the ceremony. Stay tuned to Variety for updates on all the contenders in this year’s award season races.
