Bradley Parrish, Chamberlin Little, and Patrick Dunbar star in the latest production of Beauty and the Beast by Belmont University Musical Theatre. The show, which ran from March 24-26, was directed by David Shamburger and featured superb musical direction by Nate Strasser and choreography by Anna Perry. The cast of talented actors impressed the audiences, which included young princesses dreaming of one day playing the role of Belle.
Maya Kaempf portrayed Belle in the show we reviewed and delivered a visually stunning performance that matched her singing. Her portrayal of the spirited and independent Belle was captivating, and her chemistry with Noah Sowalskie’s Beast was palpable. Sowalskie gave a commanding and charming performance as the cursed prince, who could only break his curse with true love.
Patrick Dunbar’s Gaston was perfectly arrogant, and Chamberlin Little was perfectly played as his sidekick, LeFou. Simon Elliott played Belle’s bumbling inventor father, Maurice, and effectively conveyed his character’s age and maturity. The rest of the cast members were equally impressive, bringing vibrancy to every scene, especially the big musical numbers that make Beauty and the Beast such a beloved production.
Anna Perry’s choreography and Nate Strasser’s musical direction lend professionalism and sophistication to the show, as does the remarkable lighting design by Richard Davis. Melissa Durmon’s beautiful costumes were perfectly paired with all the other design elements, providing a visual feast throughout the show.
Beauty and the Beast has been a cultural phenomenon for over twenty years, with various productions winning rave reviews from critics and audiences. Belmont University Musical Theatre’s latest offering is no exception. With this talented cast and production staff, future audiences have much to look forward to from Belmont University Musical Theatre.
