Beauty and the Beast Musical: A Timeless Classic
Disney’s animated film version of Beauty and the Beast was a hit when it was first released in 1991. Soon after its release, it garnered a lot of attention and praise from critics and fans alike. The movie was a success, and its popularity led to its adaptation as a live stage musical. In 1994, the musical premiered on Broadway to fair-to-middling reviews but won the hearts of audiences, eventually running for over 5,000 performances over 13 years. Since then, Beauty and the Beast has become one of the most beloved musicals in the world of American theater.
After a long wait of 23 years, Belmont University Musical Theatre finally presented its own version of Beauty and the Beast in March 2023. The show was a huge hit among the audience, comprising young princesses and theater lovers of all ages. Directed by David Shamburger, the musical showcased a talented cast of performers who delivered a compelling and entertaining performance.
Sierra Fermin and Maya Kaempf alternated in the role of Belle, and both gave a picture-perfect representation of the character while singing the role with confidence and style. Maya Kaempf played Belle in the performance reviewed but other cast members included Noah Sowalskie as the Beast, Patrick Dunbar as Gaston, and Chamberlin Little as LeFou. Each of them played their respective roles to perfection and transported the audience to the magical world of Beauty and the Beast.
