Lil Nas X has been announced as the latest ambassador for YSL Beauty, coming months after Australia’s Troye Sivan was also tapped by the brand in a similar role. A key mission from YSL Beauty is to redefine gender constructs within the industry, with Lil Nas X a perfect cultural force to be included in its portfolio of faces.
The announcement is significant in shattering the gender ceiling that largely still exists in the beauty industry, with boundary-pushing artistry remoulding beauty to fit a modern society. Laetitia Raoust, YSL Beauty General Manager in the United States, said in a statement the appointment is a signifier of the brand’s vision for the future and its desire to push boundaries.
“Lil Nas X embodies YSL Beauty’s vision for the future of the beauty industry: boundary-breaking, unique, unapologetic, bold,” said Raoust. “The synergies between the brand and Lil Nas X’s unwavering passion for individuality are the inspiration behind this partnership with the hope it empowers the next generation of beauty.”
Lil Nas X also shared the news on Instagram with the fantastic caption, “i am the new ambassador of @yslbeauty and tho i don’t know what the word means yet i feel very accomplished.”
The Lil Nas X YSL Beauty campaign features the debut of the brand’s newest lip icon, the Rouge Pur Couture: The Bold. The product is described by the brand as a “couture, high pigment lipstick for those who aren’t shy,” and a video from the campaign teases a segment of the singer’s unreleased track, My Little Baby.
Alongside Lil Nas X and Troye Sivan, current YSL Beauty ambassadors include outgoing Euphoria star, Barbie Ferreira and Indya Moore.
