Selling My Clothes on Instagram Has Given Me a Sense of Community as a Plus-Sized Person
If you’re a plus-size person, you’re likely familiar with the struggle of finding clothes that fit both your size and style. It’s a common problem that many people face in our society, which often prioritizes thinness and a certain beauty ideal. However, I have found a solution: selling my clothes on Instagram.
Over the years, I’ve tried various methods to get rid of clothes that no longer fit or that I no longer wear. I’ve tried online marketplaces like Etsy and Depop, and I’ve also taken my clothes to secondhand stores. While these methods have worked to some extent, I’ve never been able to fully unload all of my unwanted clothes.
That is until I discovered Instagram Story sales. In January, I launched my first sale, unsure of whether anyone would actually want to buy my clothes. To my surprise, I received an overwhelming response. People were excited to buy clothes that actually fit them, at a reasonable price.
As a fat person, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find clothes in larger sizes. Most stores only carry up to a certain size, leaving larger-bodied people with limited options. However, through my Instagram sales, I’ve been able to connect with other plus-size individuals and offer them clothes that fit their bodies.
Selling clothes has not only helped me declutter my space and earn extra money, but it has also given me a sense of community. I’ve connected with other fat people who share similar experiences to mine, and it’s been a reminder that I’m not alone.
In our society, fatness is often treated as a negative. People who are larger-bodied are often stigmatized and discriminated against. But through my Instagram sales, I’ve been able to create a space where plus-size people can feel seen and valued.
It’s not just about buying and selling clothes. It’s about creating a community where plus-size individuals can connect, share their experiences, and support each other. It’s about challenging the societal norms that promote thinness and exclusivity, and celebrating the diversity of different body types.
If you’re a plus-size person struggling to find clothes that fit and reflect your style, consider selling your clothes on Instagram. It’s a great way to connect with others in the plus-size community, while also earning some extra money and decluttering your space.
But more importantly, it’s a way to celebrate your body and your unique style, and to connect with others who share your experiences and your struggles. Together, we can create a world that is more accepting and inclusive of all body types.
