Barbara K. Adkins, age 71, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. Barb was a warrior and fought a long five-year battle with Lung Cancer. Although cancer was a contributor to her death, her body grew fatigued and she was no longer able to fight the various infections that infiltrated her body and lungs. In her final days, Barb was surrounded by her dedicated and loving husband, and her loving family and friends. Barb cherished all of her friends, and the many unique friendships that she’s built over the years. She especially loved spending time and making chocolate Christmas candies with her special friend, Barb Stevens. Barb also had a special “cousin,” Lora Stevens, that she enjoyed having fun adventures with. When not traveling, Barb and Lora stayed in touch; sharing a special bond of not just “cousins-in-law,” but also close friends. Although they were in-laws, Barb and Kevin both shared a close relationship with Myra and Dave. They would often get together to play cards or board games. On many of the times that Barb and Kevin traveled, Myra and Dave were always at their side. Over the years they’ve shared many laughs and created many wonderful memories. Barb was often given compliments on her “pretty nails.” Her special friend, Jane, always kept her nails looking nice, and Barb received compliments on her nails up to the very end of her life. Many friends will always remember Barb and her pretty nails. Barb was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church. She was President of the Worship Committee, and a member of the UMW (United Methodist Women). Barb was always present and involved in church activities and volunteered wherever she knew there was a need. Barb was also a ten-year member of the Beverly Lions Club. She served in different official capacities, including President. Barb enjoyed participating in activities with the Lions within the community and made many special friends within the organization. Barb and her devoted husband, Kevin loved to travel. They had enjoyed many cruises to the Caribbean and to Mexico with family members John and Lora Stevens, and Myra and David Swanson. Barb and Kevin also spent time traveling across the United States visiting State and National Parks, while seeing new and exciting places. Barb loved RV-ing. She and Kevin would spend the cold months in Florida, and then travel to Michigan in the summer. Barb was also an avid fan of NASCAR racing and watching her Cleveland Browns. Barb is a 1969 graduate of Morgan High School in McConnelsville, Ohio. After high school she worked at Malta Windows, where she met Kevin. Barb then attended Valley Beauty College in Zanesville, Ohio where she obtained her cosmetology license. She opened her own beauty shop for a while in Stockport, Ohio and later became co-owner of the Styling Station with sister-in-law, Kelly Zumbro. After retiring from her hair styling career, Barb then worked at the cosmetic departments at JC Penney and Elder-Beerman in Zanesville, Ohio. Barb wrapped up her working career at the Marietta Country Club where she performed secretarial tasks. Barb was preceded in death by her two loving pets, Ozzie and Smokey Jo. She was also preceded in death by her mother Genevieve Jackson, father Ray Ashton, stepfather Thomas D. Jackson, mother-in-law Gladys (Sugar) Adkins, father-in-law Dorsey Adkins, grandchild Hunter Wallace, sister-in-law Staci Kenny, special cousins Gary and Karen Ashton, and nephew Michael Offenberger. Barb leaves behind a devoted and loving husband of 46 years, Dorsey (Kevin) Adkins. Kevin has always been a source of strength for Barb and together they completed one another. Barb also leaves behind 3 children. Two daughters Penny (Greg) Wallace of Stockport, Ohio, and Mary (Steve) Ray of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and her son Don (Sabrina) Adkins of Beverly, Ohio. Barb’s three children blessed her life with eight grandchildren. Mathew Adkins of Parma, Ohio, Michelle (Carter) Kiefer of Lowell, Ohio, Kelsey Adkins of Caldwell, Ohio, Brian Adkins of Marietta, Ohio, Brant (Katie) Wallace of Stockport, Ohio, Keith (Alicia) Wallace of Layton, Utah, Ashley Wallace of Zanesville, Chase (Lindsey) Wallace of Zanesville, Ohio, and twin sisters Savannah and Taylor Ray of Buckeye Lake. Barb’s grandchildren then blessed her with eleven great grandchildren. Destiny, Cyaira, Airyanna, and Kace Wallace of Zanesville, Kane Roehrig of Zanesville, and Rilynn and Brannick Wallace of Layton, Utah. Barb also recently received a new great-granddaughter, Mrs. Xyla Renee Keifer, and has three more great-granddaughters due to be born in October. Barb has had close relationships with her in-laws from day one of meeting Kevin. She’s created many wonderful and fun memories with them over the last 46 years. Barb leaves behind Myra (Dave) Swanson, Alan (Stephanie) Adkins, Randy Adkins, Kelly Zumbro (and Jason Roberts).
