Sustainability has been getting a lot of buzz lately, but it’s always been a core tenet of our products. We’ve banned certain ingredients from our products based on their environmental impact, for one, have brainstormed ways to eco-fy your skin-care routine, and are taking active steps to reduce packaging, source responsibly, and neutralize our carbon emissions.
These efforts are no more clear than with the Plum Plump Hyaluronic Cream, which was designed not just to deeply hydrate and smooth skin (of course!) but to do so with the planet in mind. That’s why it’s our very first product to come in refillable pods, for starters. Here’s what you should know.
In the Ingredients
We always source ingredients with a lower environmental impact whenever possible, but we wanted to take it to the next level with Plum Plump Hyaluronic Cream. That starts with the namesake plum blend, which is a blend of Kakadu plum (which is jam-packed with enough vitamin C to put oranges to shame), antioxidant-rich Illawarra plum, and nutrient-packed Burdekin plum. This potent blend of plum extracts uses every part of the plum and is actually harvested by hand on a family-owned organic farm in Australia. The plums are also COSMOS-certified, which ensures that the company’s products are genuine organic or naturally produced to the highest feasible sustainability practices.
While the formula also boasts five types of hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid — a super-hydrating peptide that goes above and beyond – you’ll also find ice willowherb inside. Native to the Alps, it’s known for its soothing abilities, which have been harnessed by local population for centuries, as well as its key compounds that help balance oil and reduce the look of large pores. Not only is it organically, sustainably and ethically cultivated in the Alps, but ours is processed in a way that reduces carbon emissions. Plus, any leftover material is utilized as compost to lower its environmental impact.
In the Packaging
While all of our products are in recycled glass bottles and jars — since glass is one of the most easily recyclable materials and can be infinitely recycled, according to the EPA — Plum Plump Hyaluronic Cream ups the ante by coming in refillable pods. Once you run out, you can just replenish your jar with a refill pod. Each pod is sealed fresh and made of 50% post-consumer recycled material to help further reduce CO2 emissions and carton waste. Once you use up a refill pod, just send it to Terracycle for recycling.
Not only do the easy-to-use refill pods keep you from tossing or recycling jars every time you hit bottom, but they have ripple effects too. They’re lighter, so transportation is easier, and require less energy to produce — therefore improving the overall carbon footprint during the manufacturing process, too.
While there’s still a lot of work to be done to make the beauty industry more sustainable, our goal with the Plum Plump Hyaluronic Cream — both in its ingredients and packaging — is to take a step in the right direction and continue our efforts in Glowing for the Planet.
